Thomasville City Schools, SRTC Partner to Create New College Pathway for Future Educators
THOMASVILLE, GA — Thomasville City Schools is expanding opportunities for students interested in a career in education through a new partnership with Southern Regional Technical College (SRTC) that allows Thomasville High School students to begin college-level education coursework while still in high school.
Through SRTC Dual Enrollment, students have the opportunity to complete nine college credit hours through the Foundations of Education program, consisting of the first three courses in SRTC’s Associate of Science in Education pathway.
Thomasville City Schools educator Ms. Presha is helping lead the new opportunity at Thomasville High School, giving students the chance to explore the teaching profession while simultaneously earning high school and college credit.
“This partnership is what Bulldog +1 is all about—creating opportunities and experiences for our students that prepare them for their future,” Superintendent Dr. Scott Sweeting said. “There is no profession more important to the future of our community than education. We are excited for our students, for Ms. Presha and for our continued partnership with SRTC.”
For SRTC, the partnership also represents an opportunity to help develop future educators locally and create a pathway that students can continue after high school.
“We’re excited for the opportunity to partner with Thomasville City Schools and provide these college courses to students,” said Mason Miller, SRTC Vice President of Academic Affairs. “There is a need for local teachers, and growing our own educators is important. This gives students an opportunity to begin that pathway here at home and continue their education through articulation agreements with universities across Georgia.”
Haley Jarvis, SRTC Early Childhood Education Program Chair, said she is excited to work alongside the first students completing the new Foundations of Education Technical Certificate of Credit.
“These are the first three courses in our Associate of Science in Education program, and they provide the foundation for where these students are headed,” Jarvis said. “I’m excited for us to work together and learn together. It’s a great opportunity for these students.”
For Thomasville City Schools, the partnership is another extension of Bulldog +1, the district’s commitment to providing experiences and opportunities that prepare students for success beyond high school while also helping build a pipeline of future educators for the Thomasville community.
“This is about giving students a head start while also showing them that a meaningful career in education can begin right here at home,” Sweeting said.
